The spotlight might be on her sister at the moment (Rooney Mara was recently cast as Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") but Kate is plenty qualified in her own right.

Full disclosure: I am a redhead. And yes, I know that in comics, the ladies in question are usually a touch on the fire-engine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], fake-looking side, but since red hair is caused by a genetic mutation in the first place, wouldn't it be nice/appropriate to see a natural redhead portray Ms. Watson?

Deborah Ann Woll

Currently vamping it up on HBO's southern vampire soap "True Blood," Woll has both the looks and the acting chops to tackle the sensitive and fiery sides of Mary Jane. [UPDATE: Ms. Woll had me fooled! She has apparently been dying her hair since age 15. For her dedication, I will allow her to remain on this list as an "honorary" redhead.]

While these ladies are all lovely, I'd like to issue a plea to Sony, Marc Webb, and "Spider-Man" decision-makers: Cast a freakin' redhead in the role!

Rachelle Lefevre

Another one for whom age might be a factor, but in the opposite sense. I've always enjoyed Lefevre when I've seen her. There is a feminine, ethereal air about her that would suit a version of Mary Jane.
Furthermore, I want to see a real redhead ― none of these dye-job fakers that keep taking on my favorite titian-tressed comic book characters (I'm looking at you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Kirsten Dunst and Scarlett Johansson).

Following the somewhat backwards method of casting for Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" love interests (i.e., a blonde Kirsten Dunst for redheaded MJ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and a redheaded Bryce Dallas Howard for blonde Gwen Stacy), some folks might toss the ladies who were originally rumored to be up for the new Gwen Stacy role into the mix (Mia Wasikowska, Dianna Agron, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott).

Molly Quinn

She might be just a tad too young for the part, but Quinn is such an adorable little scene stealer on "Castle," I sometimes forget to watch Nathan Fillion in their scenes (which is saying something). If not now, someday. Quinn is definitely one to watch.
